The Prize
 

The Jazzconnect Vocal Jazz Competition officially begins September 15, 2002. The competition will award prizes aimed at giving exposure to the artist's music and furthering the artist's career.

There will be 3 winners. The 1st place winner will be awarded the following prizes: The artist will perform at Birdland Jazz Club in New York backed up by their house band. The performance will be recorded live and a cd will be produced. The artist will receive 200 copies to sell or distribute and will have the option to acquire more copies at cost. The 1st place winner will also receive 3 nights at the New York Four Seasons Hotel during the time of the engagement at Birdland and *transportation expenses. The 2nd place winner will get a featured interview/article in Jazz Improv Magazine. The 3rd place winner will receive a $100 gift certificate for CDs from Concord Records' new catalog.

Each submission will be uploaded to the Jazzconnect Competition Stage in RealAudio format. The international jazz community will be notified weekly regarding new entries. The community will be invited to the website to listen and vote for each contestant. All entries will remain on the website for the duration of the competition to give the voting public adequate time to vote**. The competition will accept entries up to November 1st and the voting, done by the general public and the judges will go to December 20, 2002. 3 finalists, with the 3 highest scores, will be announced shortly afterwards and a final round of voting will commence. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners will be chosen from this final round of voting.

 
 
*Jazzconnect will provide a round trip airline ticket for the winner to NYC from any major U.S. city. If the winner is from outside the U.S., they are responsible for their ticket to the U.S..

**Please note: The voting done on-line, by the international jazz community, will count for 50 percent of the vote. A panel of judges (professional musicians) will also vote and their vote will count for 50 percent of the vote. 3 finalists will be selected (the top 3 scores) and the winner will be chosen from a final round of voting done entirely on-line.
