Kaoruko Yoshida

Kaoruko is a jazz vocalist fresh to the Boston scene. She comes from Tokyo where she worked in the nightclubs singing and playing piano. Kaoruko came to Boston in 1990 to study at Berklee College of Music. There she studied vocal performance and jazz composition with some of the best the school had to offer, including Herb Pomeroy and Greg Hopkins.

Since graduating she has continued her studies with Hal Crook and Charlie Sorrento. With Hal Crook, local jazz improv guru, she learned style and scat skills. In Boston, Kaoruko has performed jazz standards in clubs and restaurants including Acton Jazz Cafe, Ryles, Les Zygomates, Limbo, The Center for the Arts In Natick, and Bullfinch's. She also did a stint with a local bossa nova band.

Kaoruko has just released a new CD, "Joy Spring". The mix of standards and bossa nova on the CD is representative of her repertoire. Each selection has a different instrumentation and an approach that is unique to her.

"A disc that reveals strong time and intonation"
Bob Blumenthal (Boston Globe)
